I was born and raised in England, spent twenty plus years writing for television and the last ten as a professional artist, specializing in commissioned portraits. But my love for creating art started way before I took the leap into making it a full time career. I think I was about three when I first put pencil to paper, and after that I didn't do much else!
Most of my life has been devoted to drawing in graphite and it's still one of my passions (http://www.paintinginpencil.com). Digital art is an exciting new medium, both for the art world and for me. The technique is the same as in traditional painting, brush to canvas, stylus to screen. On the other hand, my palette is unlimited and never dries out. And pixels have no smell and don't stain my clothes. But pencil, brush or stylus, my goal is always the same - to discover the essence of my subject and create art that portrays it, that connects with the viewer, as if they've known each other all their lives.
I've won several awards and honorable mentions at art shows, including a recent Best Of Show at the Westlake Village Art Guild's annual juried competition. Since I'm generally too busy working to enter many shows, that really meant a lot to me.
Apart from art, my other love in life is my Irish and Gordon Setters. We show and compete in conformation, obedience, rally, hunt tests and most recently, freestyle, aka dancing with dogs. They have been the inspiration for a lot of my artwork, but even though commissions fill most of my time nowadays, they will always be the main source of joy in my life.
To see examples or learn more about my work, take a look at my portfolio or read my blog, and for information or questions of any kind, please contact me. Your feedback is always welcomed and much appreciated.
Enjoy!
